Marine Debris Document Holders
Marine Debris Document Holders
Why you will love "Marine Debris Document Holders": PVC plastic rope that's left in the oceans by fish farms is some of the sturdiest, most durable fibre you'll ever encounter. It's designed to hold things. With this design, I've created a knotted (macrame) netting, but it's not intended to trap fish this time around! Instead, it's designed to hold your mail, documents, magazines, books, and general paraphernalia. As someone who makes random stacks of things throughout my home and workspace, I personally require a desk-tidy like this in every room I enter because "there's a place for everything, and everything in its place" (or so I've been told).
Why not bring functional trash-to-treasure design principles into a modern office setting as well? We're in this environmental mess because profiteering corporations have tried to make their mountains of waste invisible to consumers. So many secrets about industries are repressed, and the task that presents itself is to make waste not only visible--but to learn to repurpose it and grant it value anew.
These Marine Debris Document Holders are designed with the help of a sturdy custom fabricated and powder coated steel frame. The back of each piece is adorned with a metal tag with my initials, and these are accompanied with information about the salvaged marine rope used for their construction.
Why I made "Marine Debris Document Holders" : In an effort to explore marine plastic rope, I wanted to create some functional pieces that ventured closer to furniture. To begin that design work, I began with the smallest object I could make that was intended to hold weight.
